Ignore all the negative reviews for £35 quid you are getting a decent camera for the price I’ve got two and so far they are working fine even if they only last 6 months for £35 you can’t complain they integrate with HomeKit fine downside it Apple only supports 1080 still but still the image quality is ok for what you need install was easy, I had to buy longer cable for my install as they are outside looking at buying a third and the G4 soon, finally I’ve tried all the expensive camera and yes they are great but you get what you pay for and these are good for what your paying for

This camera is very nice. It’s small enough to go almost anywhere from a table to stuck in a corner without being ugly and distracting, yet still visible so people know it’s there (sometimes the presence of a camera is enough to keep intruders away).

The picture quality is very good, better than the other small security cameras I have. Motion is smooth so the video is very easy to watch and see exactly what is going on. The night vision is very good. We have a street light that normally isn't bright enough for cameras to see without infrared but this camera is still able to get a clear picture without turning on the IR sensor. When I moved it to a darker location the IR sensor turned on and I can see everything but of course it’s still that IR image all cameras have. Movement detection notification is quick. Within a couple of seconds I get alerts on my phone, it’s noticeably faster than other cameras I have. The Aqara is always the first to notify me.

I did have a couple of hiccups setting it up. First my phone was connected to a 5Ghz wifi and though the setup looked like it should have listed other wifi’s it didnt and I had to connect my phone to the 2.4Ghz network in our house but then the camera seemed to think it was paired and I couldn't pair it again or access it. I had to hold down the reset button on the camera and start it again. The second time through the setup when I was connected to the correct wifi it all worked smoothly. I can now have my phone on the 5Ghz network and the camera still works fine and connects with my phone from the 2.4Ghz network.

I installed the Aqara app and linked it to Apple Home. The Aqara app works fine and I use it all the time. The Apple Home however is no longer able to connect to the camera. I suspect this is an Apple Home problem not an Aqara problem. This was the first time I tried to use Apple Home, I usually just use the device apps and since the Aqara app works fine I’ll just continue doing that.

All in all I think this is a very good security camera. The only problems I’ve had seem to be software and app problems which might be fixed in the future. Even without software fixes the camera still works great and is better than the ones I already have so I’m happy.

Still early on, first two weeks, but the cameras are incredible for the price! Video quality stands out with clear, crisp colorful images. Motion detection works well. I’m powering a couple with POE adapters and one with a wall wort direct to power. All work flawlessly. Integration with Apple HomeKit is seamless and works really well (though HomeKit limits image quality, it still looks good!). The Aqara app is easy to work with, too. It will be interesting to see how well these value priced cameras hold up to Florida heat and humidity, but I have no complaints so far.

My dog freaks out in bad weather and hides in the basement. I wanted a way to be able to check in on her when not at home, and decided I’d put a camera in. I have a number of other Aqara items and am decently happy with them — although I generally think of them as having middling quality, but very good pricing. And that’s what I was looking for in this camera for freaked out dog watching.

Overall, I find the camera serves my needs. It is basic, but I’m not surprised given the price. The image quality is good enough and it’s pretty responsive to pull up.

In terms of installation, I just have it sitting on a countertop. It has a built in articulating arm to achieve different angles. Note that the camera is super light, so I found it hard to make it sit in the place I wanted securely — so I put something heavy on top of the cable behind the camera to keep it somewhat fixed. You could mount it permanently with the included hardware, but that wasn’t practical in my case. It would be nice if the base was magnetized, as I’ve seen with some other cameras. I have a post in the basement that would have made the magnetization perfect and stable. Oh well.

I first set up the camera in the Aqara app. I recently set up a separate IoT network and added it to that network, which went perfectly fine. However, adding it to Matter didn’t go well. It failed every time. I thought I would bring it into HomeKit via Matter, but instead ended up using the built in HomeKit integration, which worked fine. With HKSV built in, I have all the functionality I typically expect within the Home app.

So I think this will be fine for my needs overall. But I take a star off because (1) it does not include a power adapter (annoying!) and (2) the limited mounting options. Also, I hate that it is asking for me to sign up for a subscription. Not gonna happen. The justifications they give over why that’s better than local storage are comical. But just ignore — if you have HKSV, you are good.

So for the price, I think this is a pretty good solution. Not perfect — but I didn’t expect perfection this time.

Really nice camera compatible with legacy Apple HomeKit! For the cheap price, you can’t beat this outdoor camera. I have it in the chicken run outside pointed at the run and the chicken coop door, and I’m really enjoying it so far. Seamless integration with iOS. 5 stars!!!

1st, I'm a big fan of Aqara's products. They're trying new things and expanding instead of playing it safe.

I've only had the camera for 24hrs. but so far it is my new favorite wifi camera (specifically wifi) based on price and integration. It will replace my Wyze and last Nest camera because of the Home Assistant (via HomeKit) features — the light, video, and motion show as separate entities in Home Assistant so I'm a fan.

Unexpected: The LED light is bright enough to cover a standard room without blinding everyone. I like that it can be controlled separately to function as a small light.

Small-Wish: I would have liked a magnetic base because the camera isn't heavy enough to resist the weight of the power cord under some circumstances.

I had so much hope for these after having great experience with the G5 Pro WiFi version. On paper, it has all of the features I need and none of the fluff. I don’t need another device with any kind of hub built in. At the price point, these sounded too good to be true. I set up two of them on two different networks and they both gave issues with onboarding to the Aqara app and HomeKit. Got past that, updated firmware, and then both went offline shortly afterwards. A power cycle brought them back but only for about an hour or so. I had the same exact experience with the Aqara PTZ cameras ages ago. Very frustrating to see they haven’t improved on existing issues. I recommend getting something better instead of trying to cheap out on these because you will get what you pay for.

I ordered this because I use Home Assistant for home automation. I use it specifically because it is first and foremost locally controlled. Aqara advertises this as working with Home Assistant. While technically accurate, this leaves much to be desired. First, and the biggest negative, to set this up you *MUST* download and use the Aqara phone app. In other words, you will be literally phoning home to China. There is ZERO reason a special app should be needed for a device with wifi. Have the device utilize a captive wifi portal.

Second, you can either set this up to be linked to the Aqara app (in which again, it seems to connect to the cloud with no setting to disable this) or homekit. You can also enable RTSP, which is what I did. However, there is no clear way to have the device utilize RTSP for local streaming to the third party app like Home Assistant and DISABLE the remote access via the Aqara app. I suspect deleting the device from the Aqara app will do it, but then you can't change settings.

In terms of camera quality, it is solid. Night or day the image looks good for normal security cam uses. The app AI detection works though I suspect it utilizes the Internet for that.

I understand why companies try desperately to lock you in. But in the end it is silly. There are plenty of users who will stay in the ecosystem because it is easy. Power users want access and control. I'd buy six of these in a heartbeat if they were more open.
